Facebook Privacy: A Review Case

Since 2014, the Supreme Court has pronounced two leading cases about the constitutionally­guaranteed right to privacy. In both cases, the petitioners claimed their right to privacy over their activities in cyberspace. They averred that their Facebook posts were private remarks on their individual Facebook accounts, meant to be shared only with their circle of friends of which their opposing parties are not part.In particular, this empirical report reviews the cases in Vivares v. St. Theresa’s College and Belo v. Guevarra, the recent leading cases involving Facebook informational privacy. In light of court rulings, this article explores the space in which the right to privacy exists amid the technological advances in the contemporary world and suggests practices to protect the right to privacy in this modern day.
